As a kid, I had a hare stuffed animal I took everywhere with me. It was white and it wore blue dungarees. It had a little bell and I still think I’d recognize the sound out of thousands. My mom bought a second one, so she could wash my favourite stuffed animal every once in a while. The second one looked and felt the same, but the bell was just a little off. So she couldn’t fool me. And when my favourite stuffed animal was put in the washing machine, I would wait in front of it until it was ready to come out again.

When I was five, my mum told me I was too old to bring a stuffed animal everywhere I’d go. So I had to leave it at home. But I slept with it until I was 10 years old. Now it’s somewhere in a box. But when I take it out, the sound of the bell still comforts me.

I drew this hare as a confident character. A hare that doesn’t take shit from anybody. And doesn’t care what other people think.

The original is drawn with graphite pencil on 250 gms paper. This is extra thick paper (it’s actually used for watercolour). This paper has a little structure in it to give it a natural look.
