Alligators are awesome animals. They look like living dinosaurs even though they are not. The skin structure is amazing to draw, so this was a challenge I really liked!
Alligators and crocodiles are often portrayed as the bad guys in the media. A lot of people are scared of them. I mean: if you see one eye to eye in real life, of course you’d be scared. They are dangerous predators. But they are also beautiful and slightly misunderstood reptiles. Besides: alligators are less aggressive than crocodiles. Alligators are lazy hunters, so if you don’t bother them, they can’t be bothered to chase you.
I like to work with contrast in my work. That’s why I drew this friendly looking alligator in a cosy and soft winter outfit. Now it looks less scary and hopefully you can see the beauty of this amazing reptile too!

The original is drawn with graphite pencil on 250 gms paper. This is extra thick paper (it’s actually used for watercolour). This paper has a little structure in it to give it a natural look.
